DeWalt has released a new 20V MAX 8-inch brushless chainsaw praised for its compact size and strong performance. This review evaluates its features, power, and potential uses.
DeWalt has introduced its 20V MAX 8-inch brushless chainsaw, emphasizing its combination of compact design and significant cutting power. This new tool aims to serve homeowners and professionals seeking a lightweight, versatile chainsaw without sacrificing performance, and it is now available for purchase.
The DeWalt 20V MAX 8-inch brushless chainsaw features a brushless motor designed to deliver increased efficiency and runtime. It weighs approximately 8 pounds, making it notably lighter than traditional gas-powered chainsaws, and includes a 20V MAX battery platform compatible with other DeWalt tools. According to DeWalt, the chainsaw provides up to 100 cuts per charge in softwood, with a chain speed of 8.3 meters per second, which is suitable for trimming branches, pruning, and light-cutting tasks. The tool’s compact size—measuring just over 20 inches in length—aims to improve maneuverability in tight spaces. The chainsaw has a built-in automatic oiling system, a tool-free chain tensioning mechanism, and a safety trigger lock. DeWalt claims that its brushless motor offers comparable power to some gas-powered models, though specific performance benchmarks are still being reviewed by early users and experts.Implications for Homeowners and Light Professionals
This new chainsaw could reshape expectations for small power tools by offering a lightweight, cordless option capable of handling tasks traditionally reserved for larger, gas-powered models. Its portability and ease of use make it particularly appealing for homeowners, landscapers, and arborists performing light to medium-duty work. If the claimed power and battery life are confirmed in real-world testing, it could lead to increased adoption of battery-powered chainsaws in professional settings, reducing reliance on gas engines and associated maintenance. The product’s success may also influence future tool designs from other manufacturers, emphasizing compactness without sacrificing performance.DeWalt 20V MAX 8-inch cordless chainsaw

The launch of this 8-inch chainsaw aligns with DeWalt’s strategy to expand its outdoor power equipment offerings. Prior to this, DeWalt introduced larger chainsaws and outdoor tools, but the new model targets users seeking a lightweight, easy-to-handle option for smaller tasks. The market for battery-powered chainsaws has grown as consumers and professionals look for alternatives to noisy, maintenance-heavy gas models.“It’s surprisingly powerful for its size and easy to handle, perfect for quick pruning jobs around the yard.”

Early tests indicate up to 100 cuts in softwood per charge, but actual runtime varies based on the type of wood and cutting conditions. More detailed testing is expected in the coming months.
Is the chainsaw suitable for professional use?
While designed primarily for homeowners and light professional tasks, some users may find it useful for quick, light-duty jobs. Its durability and power under continuous use are still being evaluated.
How does this chainsaw compare to gas-powered models?
It offers comparable power for light tasks but lacks the raw cutting capacity of larger gas models. Its main advantages are portability, low maintenance, and ease of use.
Will DeWalt release additional sizes or models?
DeWalt has not officially announced plans for other sizes, but the success of this model could influence future product development in cordless outdoor power tools.
